For Parents

Dear "M" League Participants and Parents:

Welcome to the Nike/Moonshine/Miami University Youth Soccer League! We look forward to a season full of fun and improvement for the area's youth players. The purpose of this letter is to provide a few details and organizational notes.

The first practice will be either Tuesday, or Thursday, (check the enclosed list to find your practice day) at 5:30 p.m. at the soccer fields next to the Yager Football Stadium. On the first day try, if possible, to arrive a few minutes early because we will be taking some time to organize players into their teams. We will have tables set up inside the Yager Football Stadium for parents to return medical/insurance waiver forms and pick up balls and uniforms. If a player does not have these forms they will not be allowed to play. Shin-guards are also mandatory for participation.

Because we have no way to gauge skill levels at this point and we hope to provide equal competition, there may be some changes among teams during the early part of the season. Please explain to the players that the primary goals of our league are fun and improvement, and they should not be overly concerned with which team is "better". All the teams should simply share an enjoyment for playing the game. Practice sessions will run for approximately one hour. The Miami staff asks that players are picked up no later than 6:45 p.m. All staff coaches will leave at 7:00.

Saturday games will be at either 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. or Noon. Game days will be April 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th and May 3rd. Because of time constraints with the Miami University schedule, we will practice in moderate to bad weather (canceling only in extreme situations) and will not make up cancelled days.

Once again, fun and improvement for everyone are the primary goals of our league. In order to facilitate these goals we ask that you and your children discuss a few basic rules. No foul language or negative language directed at fellow players or coaches will be tolerated. Any of these offenses will lead to removal from practice or games at the discretion of coaches. In addition, no physical acts of harm or intentional fouls will be tolerated. These rules apply to parents as well. In a general sense it is important for players to understand that the goals of the "M" League do not involve winning at all costs. Finally, to provide for players safety we ask that players do not chase or kick balls in the parking lot. With over two hundred children and parents moving in and out of the area the safest policy will be to stay in the field area.

We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday or Thursday, when we will be available to answer any further questions. It should be a fun-filled experience for us all.

Sincerely,
The Miami Soccer Staff
