Lund, Kodiak tally goals

OXFORD, Ohio – Two games in and two shutouts recorded. The Miami University women’s soccer team continued its spring slate Saturday afternoon, knocking off local rival Xavier, 2-0, at Miami Soccer Field. The RedHawks blanked Indiana State as well, in their first spring game last Saturday.

“I thought overall we played well. The first 10 minutes we were a little excited to play but once we settled down, we were able to spread the field out and pretty much do what we wanted,” head coach Bobby Kramig said.

Rising senior Sara Lund and rising sophomore Jess Kodiak scored Miami’s goals. Kodiak notched the first tally, gathering a throughball from rising senior Julie Thompson and beating the Musketeer keeper to the ball in time to finish it in the back of the net.

“It was really a good, high-quality goal,” Kramig said of Kodiak’s score. “Lund’s goal was mostly the result of tremendous individual effort on her part.”

Rising senior Rachelle Boff and rising sophomore Shannon Rosenberg split time in goal but combined to earn the clean sheet. Boff earned the shutout against the Sycamores last week.

“Haley Clark and Sarah Dessfelt were very good in the midfield for us today and the back four and goalkeeping was as well, not giving up a goal for the second straight game,” Kramig said. “I like where we are right now. We’re making progress and having fun.”

The RedHawks defeated Xavier, 3-1, during the 2009 regular season as well, on Sept. 13 in Oxford.

Miami continues its spring schedule Saturday, April 10 at Youngstown State with kickoff set for 4 p.m.
