Erik Lewis to join RedHawks staff for 2010 season

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University head women’s soccer coach Bobby Kramig has announced the addition of Erik Lewis to the RedHawks’ coaching staff, as he will serve as the goalkeepers coach starting in 2010. Lewis replaces Steve Tabar, who became the head soccer coach at nearby Badin High School.

A native of Middletown, Ohio, Lewis is a 1991 graduate of Middletown High School, who brings over 12 years of playing experience and 10 years of coaching experience to the RedHawks’ program. For the last three years, he has worked for the Ohio South Youth Soccer Association, coaching in their Olympic Development Program, serving as a goalkeepers coach since 2008.

Lewis has coached several select and club teams throughout his career, mostly in and around the Dayton area. He has also worked with Miamisburg High School’s women’s soccer team since 2006 as a goalkeeper coach and helped with Valley View High School’s women’s team since 2007.

Before moving back to Ohio in 2006, Lewis lived in Idaho while earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho, where he also helped train goalkeepers for Idaho’s women’s soccer team and both the men’s and women’s teams at Moscow (Idaho) High School. He was the president of Idaho’s club soccer team for two years as well, during which he also played goalkeeper on the team (2004-06).

Growing up in Middletown, Lewis played four years of soccer for the Middies of Middletown High, the final two as the varsity goalkeeper. While playing in high school, he also participated in Cincinnati’s Olympic Development Program as a goalkeeper from 1989-91. Lewis eventually played in the Men’s Premier Soccer League in Portland, Ore. from 1997-98.

Lewis earned an associate degree of applied science from Hocking College in 2003 and a bachelor of science degree in wildlife resources from Idaho in 2006. He also earned a National Goalkeeper’s Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 2009 after earning State and Regional Diplomas in 2008. Lewis resides in Miamisburg, Ohio.
